Which group of the RADIAL trial can I join?
- All RADIAL participants who join the trial via this website will be assigned to the decentralised (home-based) group and will participate from home.
If I join the RADIAL trial, how much of my time is it likely to take each week?
- We expect that trial activities will take, on average, an hour per week and should be easy to integrate into your usual day.
- Since you will be taking part from home, you will not need to spend any time travelling or in a hospital or clinic. All trial-related activities can be done from home.
- Many of the trial responsibilities may be things you are doing anyway as part of your routine diabetes management.
Can I continue taking my usual medications for diabetes and other conditions while taking part in the trial?
- Yes. You should continue all of your usual medications. The only trial requirement is a switch from your current long-acting basal insulin to Toujeo®. You may also join the trial when you are already using Toujeo® as your current long-acting basal insulin.
Will my own doctor continue to be involved in my diabetes management if I take part in RADIAL?
- You can of course consult your own doctor before deciding to join the RADIAL trial. If you decide to join, your doctor will be asked to provide information about your medical history to the research team, with your approval.
- During the trial, the trial doctor will support you with your diabetes management but your regular visits to your own doctor can continue to take place. You will also be free to share your trial data with your own doctor at any point during the trial if you would like to.
I am not very comfortable with technology – what level of support will I receive with this?
- The RADIAL trial team will ensure that use of technology is as simple as possible for you.
- We will provide personal training for you at the start of the trial and will be available to provide support at other times if needed.
Can a family member, friend or caregiver take part in the training with me and support me during the trial?
- Yes of course. You are welcome to involve family members, caregivers or friends in the training and to help you with any of the trial activities.
Will I receive any payment for taking part in the trial – or have to pay anything myself?
- Payments to participants are not usual in clinical research in Europe.
- In accordance with this, we cannot pay you for taking part in RADIAL but you will not have to pay for anything related to the trial either. We will provide all equipment and supplies needed for trial participation at no cost to you.
How will the RADIAL trial team monitor my progress with diabetes management?
- Following your switch to Toujeo®, information on your blood glucose levels will be transmitted directly to the trial team through the internet-enabled glucometer we will provide to you.
- Your safety and wellbeing will be our top priority during the trial and we will contact you about any medical issues you report to us.
- It’s also important to remember that you will not be receiving an experimental treatment in the RADIAL trial since Toujeo® is already a licensed medicine which is well understood.
Will my confidentiality be protected?
- Yes, absolutely. The RADIAL team, like all clinical researchers, has a duty to keep your personal information private and confidential at all times.
Will I be able to continue with Toujeo® after the trial ends?
- Toujeo® is a licensed medication in Europe so, if you wish to continue with it after the trial ends, you will be free to discuss this with your own doctor.
